Reclaiming Yarn

After I can’t remember how many years on the needles I decided to frog my Zippo (Rowan All Seasons Cotton Collection) sweater.

Instead I’m going to knit the Chunky Knit Cardigan from Simple Knits for Cherished Babies but Erika Knight. The pattern actually calls for All Seasons Cotton and I have plenty of it. Once the yarn dries (I’m straightening it) I will knit a gauge swatch.

This will be a good challenge for me. I've never done buttons or buttonholes before.

Stash Knitting

I’ve gotten pretty far on my third pair of Jaywalker socks. These are for my mom. They are knit from Opal sock yarn. I can’t tell from the label (in German) what type of Opal yarn it is.

For the most part I like the way the yarn is patterning. I would probably look a little better if the larger red band wasn't so wide.

New Year’s Resolution

I know it’s a bit late but I’m declaring a New Year’s Resolution. I’m not going to buy any new yarn this year unless it’s for baby. I think my yarn stash is large enough to get me through the year.

I’ve already started using my stash. My mom asked that the next sock I knit her be red. Instead of going out and buying new red I decided to use the Opal yarn I got from Secret Pal 7.

I’m going to knit another pair of Jaywalkers. It’ll be interesting to see how the patterning in the yarn works with the patterning in the socks.

Red Scarves Finished

A group of us at work knit and crocheted a bunch of scarves for the Red Scarf Project. We collected them all today and Melanie took them to the Yarn Garden. They should be on their way by the end of the week.

I didn’t get a photo of my two scarves (second from the right) before they were sent off. I used Cascade 128 Tweed and Wool Gatherings Falkland Islands Fine Wool for my two scarves. I enjoyed seeing what everyone else came up with. Knit or crochet a red scarf can lead to lots of different results.

Now back to my sock and shawl knitting.

Knitting Night Out

Pizza, salad, lemonade and sock knitting. Life is good.*

*Even if I don’t really like pizza.

A Finished Pair

My mom finally got to walk out of the house in her Jaywalker socks this morning.

I used Lorna’s Laces Shepard Sock in the Vera colorway. I started these socks back in October. I have to admit this wasn’t the best first trimester project. The yarn is a wool/nylon blend and is really slippery. I dropped more stitches on this project then any other I’ve worked on.

Happiness Is...

A snow day…

With a kitty on my lap…

Listening to new a Crowded House album (two discs no less)…

While knitting…

In front of a fire…

With Greg (even if he is grumpy).

Let it snow!

We woke up to about an inch of snow this morning and it was still coming down. Now it’s almost noon and we have almost three inches! And it’s snowing again!

I tried twice to get to work this morning and failed so now I’m taking a snow day. That means I’ll have time to work on my Red Scarf Project scarf.

Over the weekend I finished the second of the Vera Jaywalker. I’ll get a finished shot before I give them to mom. Here’s photo of it almost done.

I also got a photo of the start of my red shawl. I have a long way to go on this one, including getting a longer pair of circular needles.

Pile of Red Yarn

A group at work is going to participate in Red Scarf Project. Next week we’re going to get together and start scarf projects. To keep from feeling guilty about buying new red yarn I decided it was time to start my red shawl. This is a long weekend for me and I’m going to the beach with my mom. Perfect time to start a new project!

Here’s the yarn I’m packing to take to the beach.

I’ll probably be adding to the pile tomorrow when I buy my red yarn for the scarf.

Happy New Year!

I'm back from my travels down south. I know I promised I'd start blogging more once I got back, I'm working on it. In the meantime I'll distract with a new pregnancy photo.

Only our husbands can tell us apart!

Leah is probably about a week further along then I am. Today we both showed up to work in red shirts and green pants. It must be a weird pregnancy thing.
