Third Time’s the Charm

Sigh. I shouldn’t try to knit new patterns when I’m sick. Charlotte has been a bit more complicated then she should have been. First, I decided that the size 17 needles I was using weren’t giving me the right gauge. I went on an emergency needle run on Thanksgiving Eve. Thankfully Michael’s is open late and carries a pretty good supply of needles.

The second time I got to the point in the pattern where I was supposed to switch to the smaller needles and I couldn’t figure out why I too many stitches. Well it helps to read the instructions correctly and to remember that when it says to repeat pattern for 18 rows, you need to turn your row counter back to zero. And not start from row 8. Too bad I didn’t figure this out until after I’d frogged the whole thing. Sigh.

Next time I’m sick, I’m going to work on Clapotis. That pattern has become second nature.

Mom’s Clapotis update. I finally bit the bullet and washed my mom’s Clapotis. It took four rinses to get it so the dye wouldn’t keep washing out.

I had hoped that washing it would even out the colors more but there is still the stripes where the yarn got darker and then lighter again. In the end, I think the colors are lighter but my mom still liked it and that’s all that matters.

Works in Progress

On top is Charlotte on her size 19 needles next to the size 17 needles I’ll be switching to for the collar. On the bottom of the photo is Clapotis #3 on size 6 needles. They are two very different projects. I find it hard to switch between the different needle sizes.

I'm on a diet

I bought Greg’s wedding ring a couple of weeks ago and now I’m on a strict no new yarn diet until the new year. The diet is why I cataloged all my yarn over the weekend. I needed to take a look at what I had and line up some projects. Now for the fun part.

Stash busting!

First, I’m making my third Clapotis out my yarn from Amsterdam.

And, in order to keep from getting burnt out on the Clapotis, I’m knitting something for myself. I’m going to knit Charlotte with my Rowan Chunky Print.

Of course, I already have several projects lined up for when I can buy yarn again. Come January 1, 2006, I'll be buying some new yarn.

So cute, yet so bad

Sheba gives my mom's Clapotis her stamp of approval.

I finished pulling out the dropped stitches last night. Now all I need to do is wash it.

Tonight, I'm knitting gauge swatches.

Almost Done

I’ve finished the knitting on mom’s Clapotis. Now I just have to pull out the remaining dropped stitches and wash it. It’ll be nice to be able to give this to my mom.

I finished the knitting on the Clapotis this morning. Then I spent part of the afternoon photographing and cataloging my yarn stash . There was a lot there but not as much as I thought. It didn’t take me very long to go through it. I even had time to rake leaves in the back yard.

the purrfect evening

This is how I spent Monday evening

And this is how I'm spending this evening

This difference you ask? Well... not much. But I have done a few more repeats of the straight rows of mom's Clapotis.

I will get a good picture of me knitting in something other then my pjs.

Slowly but Surely

I'm making progress on my mom's Clapotis. I've dropped two stitches so far.

I've got a long way to go but I'm trying not to think about that.
