Turtle Time!

I finished Sheldon!  I'm really happy with how he came out.  I particularly like the shell.  My Boy seems pretty happy with it too.  I've knit several animals and monsters for my kids and I admit they aren't really that into them.  Both of them are quite attached to the cats I knit (they even sleep with them).  But I don't really knit these for them.  I knit them for myself - and to use up stash yarn.  :)

Purple Turtle

I like to always have a simple knitting project around for those quiet moments.  While working on the shell for Sheldon the Green I cast on Sheldon the Purple.  That gave me a body and four legs to work on.  And did I need it.  Parts of the shell is complicated and needs concentration.

As soon as my daughter heard my son was getting a turtle she wanted one too.  As it turns out back when I bought the yarn to make the first Sheldon I also bought yarn to make a purple one too.  Which is funny because I had no idea I was going to have a second child, let alone a girl.  I believe I was just trying to order enough yarn to get free shipping.

Shell Work

The way the shell for Sheldon looks!  I do not love how it rolls up on itself.  I'm blocking the pieces so I can actually sew them together.  The picture reminds me of a dissecting frogs in high school biology.  But without the innards.

Confession time:  I started another Sheldon.

Turtle Parts

I'm finally getting around to knitting Sheldon.  Better late then never, right?  This one is for My Boy.  I'm also going to make a purple one for My Girl.  I've had this yarn since November 2007.  Its not the oldest yarn I have but it is pretty dusty.

Four Little Monkeys

Here is my current monkey collection all in a row.  The rainbow and purple monkeys are my daughters.  The red, blue and black one is my son's and the green one will be on her way to my Aunt next week.  And I have two more to go!

Kids Can Dye Too!

This afternoon the kids dyed yarn!  My son dyed the red and green and my daughter dyed the purple.  The yarn is Knit Picks sock blank and the dye is food coloring.  This was my first time dyeing with food color.  And wow.  There is a lot of dye in food coloring.  I shall never dye food with it again.

The kids have both requested I knit them monkeys with their yarn.  Groan.  I've already knit four monkeys!  I shall knit their monkeys between other projects.
