Snow Day!

We got quite a lot of snow (for our neck of the woods) today.

Of course, snow days don't mean the same thing now that I have toddler. I didn't get much knitting done. I got a few rows done on my Spring Forward socks during his nap before I fell asleep too. I have turned the heel and am working on the gusset decreases. Photos soon.

Icehouse Springing

The Spring Forward socks are progressing nicely. I've been making good time thanks to Micheal Palin's New Europe on DVD. He almost lost me at the leaches but that's another story.

I'm breaking tradition with these socks. I'm actually knitting them on US size 1 needles. I've always knit socks on US size 2 before. The fabric is a lot tighter then I'm used to.

The socks are showing some interesting pooling. I hope I'm able to repeat it with the second sock.

The stitch pattern is really easy. My only complaint is there are six ssk (slip slip knit) every other round. I hate ssk. Even though the pattern is easy that hasn't kept me from messing up a couple of times. I'm think I'm back on track. A couple more rounds and I'll be starting the heel.

Leaves are done

Last night I finally finished my Embossed Leaves socks. With all the other projects I've been working on it took nearly two months. I really enjoyed these socks and would make them again. I used Sunshine Yarns Merino Sock in Meadow. I made a few changes to the pattern but nothing big. All that's left is blocking and weaving in the cuff ends.

I've already cast on another pair of socks. This time I'm making the Spring Forward socks. I'm using Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock in Icehouse from my stash.

I don't think I've mentioned yet how I'm picking my sock patterns. I'm basically going down the list of popular sock patterns on Ravelry and knitting the free patterns or patterns that I own. The first sock on the list was the Monkey socks. I'd already done the Jaywalker (second on the list) and Embossed Leaves was number four. I'll come back and do the Basic Sock Recipe (number three) with the next socks I do for my Mom.

Technically I should be knitting the Pomatomus socks next. But Knitty calls the pattern piquant or really hard. I'd like to try to finish these socks as close to Christmas as possible so I decided to come back to the Pomatomus and a later time. I've already knit the Thuja sock a couple of times so that brings me to Spring Forward. It looks like an easy pattern but over a long repeat. Should be fun!

Girl Yarn

So I made it two days without buying baby girl yarn. Ouch. That's not very long. In my defense I wanted to buy this kit when I found out I was pregnant the first time. Then I found out I was having a boy and the gender neutral colorway isn't very neutral. I'll be starting on this cardigan as soon as I finish my Christmas knitting.

Okay, so I may have also bought a couple balls of Cashmerino Aran and a ball of Cashmerino Baby for hats. I couldn't help it. I love the yarn!

We're having a girl!

I haven't mentioned that I'm pregnant yet even though I'm well into the second trimester. We're having a girl this time. One of each! Wow! The ETA on Little Miss is the end of April 2009.

I can't wait to get the Tulip Cardigan pattern and yarn.

I'd forgotten how hard it is to get a photo of myself from the side.
